At long last, spring is finally here. It’s very much marked in our house by the Easter bunny making an appearance but for me it’s about getting outside more with the family and by myself. Whether it’s for lone runs in the woods, family walks to the playground or mowing the lawn, the overall benefits can be huge!

DID YOU KNOW – only 65% of adults in England meet the recommended guidelines for physical activity? Walking, cycling and gardening all contribute to that recommended 150 mins of moderate-intensity exercise per week.

DID YOU KNOW – that according to the Mental Health Foundation reports that being physically active outdoors, improves mood, improves stress and can alleviate symptoms of depression and anxiety.

DID YOU KNOW – A study conducted by Natural England found people who spent more time outdoors had higher level of happiness and life satisfaction than those who weren’t outdoors.

My Verdict? Get Outdoors!

Personally, I don’t need much convincing to get outdoors. A prolonged period of staying indoors makes me feel lethargic but also seems to result in the three boys scrapping and a lot more mess to tidy up. Often, telling the boys to get their shoes on is met with dissatisfaction but by the time we get to wherever we’re going I struggle to get the buggers back in the house!

I don’t think any of us need studies to know it’s good for us to get outside but everything points to improved physical, mental and social wellbeing whilst giving an opportunity to connect you and the family with nature.

We’re big fans of the The National Trust and we make good use of our membership. In fact getting the boys to Cliveden doesn’t take much effort, especially this time of year. That may be less due to the flowers in bloom and wakening wildlife and more the easter egg hunt that spans round the grounds. At least we burn off what we consume aye?!

There is no better time to focus on your health than right now.

Here are a few other tips to help spring into wellness:

Nourish Your Body with Fresh Foods

Spring is synonymous with an abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables. Incorporate more seasonal produce into your meals to fuel your body with essential nutrients. Think colourful salads, smoothies with berries, and light, refreshing dishes that celebrate the flavours of the season.

Using meditation for stress management

Prioritise Self-Care

With the hectic pace of modern life, it’s essential to carve out time for self-care. Whether it’s indulging in a relaxing bubble bath, practising mindfulness meditation, or simply taking a few moments each day to breathe deeply and unwind, prioritise activities that nourish your soul and reduce stress.
