What is Sports & Remedial Massage?

Massage therapy is a manual therapy that is concerned with the assessment and treatment of the body's soft tissue e.g. muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia. The therapist utilizes their hands, forearms and elbows.

Sports and Remedial massage is proven to be effective in the treatment of the following:

  • Muscle ache and pain
  • Injured muscles from sport or activity
  • Headaches
  • Low back pain
  • Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI)
  • Sciatica
  • Sports performance
  • Injury prevention and event recovery
  • Myofascial pain syndromes

In sports massage the practitioner will assess the presenting disorder and the correct treatment required for effective relief of symptoms and to help control the cause. Using various techniques the therapist will then manage the tissue disorders. This will help improve circulation to the area, creating greater nourishment to the muscles and also stimulate the lymphatic and venous disposal of waste created by activity which can then improve the recovery period.

Sports Massage is great on it's own as regular treatment and also compliments many other therapies including, chiropractic and acupuncture also available in the Maidenhead clinic.

Benefits include:

  • Decrease symptoms
  • Improve mobility
  • Improve circulation
  • Break down scar tissue
  • Stimulation of nervous system
  • Decrease stress and manage everyday stresses
  • Cope with those stresses and relax
  • Run faster, jump higher, and play with quicker recovery

Appointment Structure

Sports Massage is available in our Maidenhead clinic.  Appointments range from 30, 45, 60 and 90 minute sessions. The session will begin with an initial assessment to evaluate your needs whether they are to rehabilitate an injury, improve performance or simply to relax. A free 15 minute consultation is available to discuss your condition or any questions you wish to ask and to decide on the correct approach for yourself.

Post Massage Care

After the massage it is important that the client increases their water intake to re-hydrate the body and flush the body of toxins. The client will be given specific post treatment advice customized to the requirements of the condition presented.
